Summer Wrap Up

Wow! It’s been a crazy summer. I took a small sabbatical from design work to travel from coast to coast with my daughter and her soccer team on their quest for a national title (side note: they won and are national champs!). Along the way I came across these five finds that have been game changers for me. The former magazine editor in me wanted to share, so I thought I’d try my hand at a blog. Check it out and stay tuned for more design content too!

A week on soccer fields in San Diego left my lips so parched that not even Aquaphor at night was working to hydrate them. With my go-to SPF lip balm now discontinued, I bought and tried (without luck) at least three other brands. Then, I splurged on Lip Screen by Supergoop!. It’s become a purse standard.

If I could have packed my bathroom magnifying makeup mirror and taken it to California with us, I would have. These Makeup Reading Glasses are more carry-on friendly option—though figuring out how to maneuver around them for proper mascara application took a bit of trial and error.

Rewind, the flagship product from beauty newcomer Byoskincare, is a retinol-alternative serum that is loaded with skin plumpers like bakuchiol, ceramides, and edelweiss stem cells—AND, it’s amazing! I’ve been using it for about a month and my skin looks so glow-y and smooth that I’ve kicked most of my other serums and moisturizers to the curb.

Nervous soccer moms wreak havoc on their nails by picking at their manis on the sidelines. Kur Perfecting Neil Veil #1 steps in with the save. This new line of nail enhancers moisturize and strengthen nails, require no base or top coat, dry incredibly fast, and look polished and professional.

Tournament laundry plus sweaty workout clothes set me over the edge. Research and my own product testing led me to Win Activewear Detergent. It’s the only brand that actually lived up to its claims to get rid of the gross sweat smell that can linger in activewear.
